Xeomin, The Other Botox
When Botox was first FDA approved in 2002 for the treatment of wrinkles for the glabellar complex, aka “angry # 11s” it did not take long for it to become a household name. But did you know that there are three neuromodulators that are currently on the market? Botox manufactured by Allergan, Dysport manufactured by Galderma, and Xeomin manufactured by Merz. All of them function the same and are in the same class. So what makes them different. Not a whole lot. The only difference I have seen is with Xeomin. Since this neuromodulator lacks the accessory proteins of the other two, in theory, it is less likely to stop working over time. I have found in my practice that Xeomin’s onset of action is quicker than Botox and lasts just as long as Botox and Dysport.
